Culinary Discoveries is a website devoted to cooking food that tastes good – from scratch. We believe that preparing delicious food does not have to be complicated or time-consuming. Most of our recipes require only basic cooking skills. We’re a husband and wife team who like to share their love of cooking and of travel.
THE RECIPES
Many, but not all of our recipes are Spanish in origin because we both enjoy Spanish cuisine… and because we were the Spanish food experts on About.com for 8 years. As we develop our site, we will be adding more of our versions of recipes from around the world.
If at all possible, we avoid eating and using packaged, prepared foods or ingredients. We just believe that fresh ingredients without additives are better tasting and better for you. Many people don’t realize that to prepare a decent meal, you don’t have to be a professional chef. Cooking from scratch does not mean you have to spend hours in the kitchen.
TRAVEL
Other than cooking and eating, we like to travel together – anywhere! We also like to share our adventures, so we will be posting our trips on the Travel page.
THE CAMINO
Since Lisa and Tony walked 200+ miles of the Camino de Santiago (pilgrimage) in 2010, and blogged about it, we decided to keep the record of our 12-day journey on a separate page of this website.
LISA & TONY
Take one Spaniard with the bravado of a bullfighter, and add one sassy California girl, and together you have a dynamic duo who likes to eat, drink and be merry. We’ve spent more than half our lives together, and much of that time has been in the kitchen!
Lisa writes the content, and tracks measurements of ingredients, time and the like for the recipes. While the web site layout, HTML and formatting might be boring to Tony, Lisa enjoys being creative on the computer, not just in the kitchen.
Tony enjoys cooking every day, and his cooking style is probably like your grandma. He cooks by feel – a pinch of this, a handful of that. Taste and adjust. He’s also a very creative cook, who substitutes ingredients to try a new flavor twist.
